Prayer of Confession

Almighty God, you poured your Spirit upon gathered disciples, creating
   bold tongues, open ears, and a new community of faith. We confess that we hold
   back the force of the Holy Spirit among us. We do not listen for your word of
   grace, speak the good news of your love, or live as people made one in Christ.
   Have mercy on us, O God. Forgive us.

Transform our timid lives by the power of your Spirit, and fill us with a
   flaming desire to be your faithful people, doing your will for the sake of your
   Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

(A time of silence for personal reflection, to be ended with the ringing of the bell.)

Affirmation of Faith

Through the Holy Spirit, God created the heavens and the earth. Inspired by the Spirit of God we proclaim Jesus is Lord, our Lord and Redeemer. We believe there are many gifts, but the same Spirit.  There are many ways of serving, but the same Lord.  There are many sorts of skills, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone.

To each child of God is given an expression of the Spirit for the common good. We are not all the same, we do not look the same, we are different with a common bond and mission. We are gifted by the Spirit. Gifts of healing, gifts of extraordinary ability,  gifts of prophetic insight,  of communication, many forms of leadership and countless ways of giving assistance - all these are activated by the one and the same Spirit, who allots to each individually just as the Spirit chooses, to the glory of God and the joy of humankind.

This we believe and so we live, Amen.
