Second Sunday of Easter

Order of Worship

Prelude / Silent Meditation

(The Lord is in His holy temple, let all the earth be silent before Him.)

Call to Worship

Leader: The tomb was found empty!
People: What does this mean?
Leader: Jesus has risen!
People: What does this mean?
Leader: Jesus comes to us, saying, “Peace be with you!”
People: What does this mean?
Leader: O ye of little faith, do not doubt, but believe!
People: What does this mean?
All: Come, let us walk the journey of faith, acknowledging our doubts but holding on to hope, for Christ is Risen!

Opening Hymn #144

“Alleluia! Sing to Jesus”

Invocation

Prayer of Confession (together)

Merciful and loving God, your love for us is unconditional, yet our love for you, for others and for ourselves is often marred. We allow prejudice and pride to blind us; our brokenness remains unhealed; we cling to old stories and hurts which impede the work of reconciliation.

Forgive us, we pray, for failing to trust you, for staying safe instead of following the daring call of your Spirit, for withholding forgiveness and grace from ourselves and others. Let your love renew us yet again. Let the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead rekindle creative life within us and restore right relations among us. In Jesus name, Amen.

(A time of silence for personal reflection, to be ended with the ringing of the bell.)

Meditation from the Word of God

“RESURRECTION DAY: PART 2”
Elder / Pastor Ed Ramos

Affirmation of Faith (The Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
