Opening Hymn #85

“What Wonderous Love is This”

The Lighting of Christ Candle

Invocation

Prayer of Confession (together)

Awesome and challenging God, hold us close for this moment, so that by your grace we might look deep within and let your healing light purify our darkness. Only in your grasp can we face our struggles; our frantic pursuit of busyness in order to cover up the emptiness of meaning in life; the ease with which we tolerate the troubles and inequities of our divided society. Forgive us for we have not learned to love.

Holy and disturbing God, keep us close to the cross and let us experience your transforming love as we dine at your Table and stand beneath your Cross. In your name, Amen.

(A time for reflection, to be ended with the ringing of the bell.)

Affirmation of Faith - The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, theFather, the Almighty, maker ofheaven and earth, ofall that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son ofGod, eternally begotten ofthe Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came downfrom heaven, was incarnate ofthe Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became trulyhuman. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand ofthe Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdomwill have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver oflife, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness ofsins. We look for the resurrectionofthe dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen
