People: Laid aside so that we might find rest for our souls.
Leader: We are people of worship, and today that worship is ...
People: Offered in a spirit of humility and gratitude.
All: Accept, O God, the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts. Let us worship our Risen Savior, Amen.

Opening Hymn #288

“I Sing the Mighty Power of God”

Invocation

Prayer of Confession (together)

Merciful and risen Savior, we claim to be people of the resurrection, yet we confess that far too often we do not experience resurrection power. Our prayers are anemic and our faith is shallow. We compartmentalize our lives, placing you on the sidelines of our work, family life and play. We take too much for granted and fail to thank you for the blessings of health, relationships and freedoms.

Gracious God, forgive our shortsightedness and our lack of trust. Help us to see that you are at work in our lives and in the world. Inspire us to hold fast to you in faith, knowing that you are working all things for good and that because of the empty tomb, we have nothing to fear. In Jesus Christ’s name, Amen.

(A time of silence for personal reflection, to be ended with the ringing of the bell.)

Affirmation of Faith (The Apostles’ Creed)

As Easter people, we believe God is Lord of both life and death.

We believe that in an astounding act of grace, Jesus suffered and died on the cross to save us from our sins.

We believe, three days later, Jesus was raised from the dead, promising us salvation, not because we deserve it, but out of love, through grace. We believe we are called to respond to that gift of grace, not out of duty, but in gratitude, to seek peace, to care for the ill, clothe the naked, feed the hungry, empower the oppressed and welcome the outcast; to carry on Christ's work until He comes again.

Because, as Easter people, we are confident Jesus Christ will come again. Christ is risen. He is risen, indeed! Alleluia, Amen!
