Call to Worship

Elder Jell Dizon

Leader:           Here in this place, God offers us food,
People:          - so we take and eat.
Leader:           Here in this place, our neighbors are hungry,
People:          - so we share the bread and the cup.
Leader:           Here in this place, the table extends
People:          - beyond our friends, beyond those who agree with us
Leader:           - beyond the border, beyond these walls
People:          - around the world.
Leader:           Let us taste and see that our God is good.
ALL:                 Come, let us worship God with joy, Amen!

Opening Hymn #466

“O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing”

Invocation *

Prayer of Confession

Holy God, we have failed as your church, O God. You call us to live faithfully, act justly and bring peace to the earth. Instead, our lives and your church reflect more of our needs and worries and less of the needs and worries of all peoples. Move us beyond ourselves to hear the cry of the world and to respond with acts and deeds of kindness, mercy and justice.

May your grace shine through your church that, even with its shortcomings, accepts the call of Christ to serve and care and to love and bring peace. May we receive now your forgiving spirit. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

(A time of silence for personal reflection, to be ended with the ringing of the bell.)

Sharing of the Peace *

May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.
The Lord be with all of you. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

Prayer of the People / The Lord’s Prayer

Prayer Response

This is my Father’s world; I rest me in the thought
of rocks and trees, of skies and seas,
                                                                                  His hand the wonders wrought.

Meditation from the Word of God

Be Holy!
Pastor Ed Ramos

Affirmation of Faith

We are the church called into being by Christ Jesus, sealed in baptism by His Spirit, sent as messengers who bear the Good News to all people. We are men and women, old and young, poor and rich, from many backgrounds, races, cultures, nationalities - united in fellowship by the mercy and wisdom of God. We do nothing in and of ourselves. Instead, we are made new by the regenerative power of Christ Jesus.

We are confirmed in grace, sanctified in love; we serve in humility and weakness, trusting God to work in and through us. We are the church, and Christ is our head. Thanks be to God! Amen.                 (adapted from The Confession of 1967)
