Opening Hymn #411‍ ‍
“Arise, Your Light is Come!”

Invocation *

Prayer of Confession

Loving Father, you comfort, support and encourage us. Your goodness and kindness go beyond our understanding. Yet despite your gracious love and care, we seek to go our own way and to trust our own resources. We confess we need your forgiveness. We admit we are flawed, broken people in need of mercy.

Through the person and work of Jesus Christ, forgive us for all the times we have failed you. Restore us to you and grant us your transformation. We pray through Jesus Christ our Lord, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

(A time of silence for personal reflection, to be ended with the ringing of the bell.)

Affirmation of Faith

(Lausanne Movement for Evangelism)

We Affirm...

That Jesus Christ sends his redeemed people into the world as the Father Him, and that this calls for a similar deep and costly penetration of the world. We need to break out of our ecclesiastical ghettos and permeate non-Christian society. In the Church’s mission of sacrificial service, evangelism is primary. World evangelization requires the whole Church to take the whole gospel to the whole world.

The Church is at the very center of God’s cosmic purpose and is His main means of spreading the gospel. But a Church which preaches the cross must itself be marked by the cross. It becomes an impediment to evangelism when it betrays the gospel or lacks a living faith in God, a genuine love for people, or serious honesty in all things including promotion and finance. The church is the community of God’s people rather than an institution, and must not be identified with any particular culture, social or political system, or human ideology. This we believe and so we live.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
