The Rev. Dr. Steve Yamaguchi
Rev. Dr. Steven Toshio Yamaguchi is a minister member of our Pacific Presbytery. He recently retired from serving the past five years at Tokyo Union Church in Japan. He is a native of the Crenshaw neighborhood in South Los Angeles.
He has served as Pastor of the Japanese American Grace Presbyterian Church in Paramount /Long Beach, was the Executive Presbyter of Los Ranchos Presbytery, and the Dean of Students and Asst. Prof. of Pastoral Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary. Just before Tokyo he was Transitional Co-Pastor at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in LA’s Koreatown, an English/Spanish bilingual ministry.
Steve earned the MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary and the DMin Claremont School of Theology. He is a past trustee of San Francisco Theological Seminary and still serves actively on the trustee board of Princeton Seminary, chairing the Academic Affairs Committee. He enjoys bicycling, music, and fly fishing. He lives in Long Beach with his artistic and athletic wife, Alison, a Pediatric Physical Therapist at the Children's Hospital. They have two adult children who live and work in California. These days he is busy training a Border Collie puppy. Steve is a Lifetime Member of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus and a Coach for Change Leaders with AE Sloan Leadership.
