Invocation

Prayer of Confession

Merciful God and Father in heaven, you are faithful and just; you are willing to forgive our sins and to purify us from all unrighteousness. Before you and our sisters and brothers, we confess that we have spoken many empty words and have at times broken even our most sacred vows. Our sins are an affront to you; they are a disgrace before the watching world, and they have caused us unspeakable pain.

Through our Lord Jesus may we begin this New Year with the joy of knowing we belong to you, with the freedom of being purified by your blood, and with the healing which your grace alone can bring. In the name of our blessed Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen.

(A short moment of silence for personal reflection will follow this prayer, to be ended with the ringing of the bell.)

Meditation from the Word of God

“LET US START WITH WORSHIP”
Rev. Emmanuel Orendain

A Covenant for the New Year (together)

I give myself completely to you, God.
Assign me to my place in your creation.
Let me suffer for you.
Give me the work you would have me do.
Give me many tasks
Or have me step aside while you call others.
Put me forward or humble me.
Give me riches or let me live in poverty.
I freely give all that I am and all that I have to you.
And now, holy God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
You are mine and I am yours. So be it.
May this covenant made on earth continue for all eternity, Amen.

This New Year remember:

God nowhere promises happiness is to be a goal in life. It’s not a goal.

Our goal is to obey God.
Our goal is to do the will of God.
Our goal is to be a disciple of the
