Opening Hymn #482

“Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty””

Invocation

Prayer of Confession (together)

Ever-giving God, we have cheaply used what you have given us. We have held in our hands high and holy opportunities only to carelessly cast them aside. We have hurried through days that were pregnant with possibility, yet we failed to "turn aside and see." We have often times made up our minds on people, trod on the hopes of others, stepping on another's growth in faithfulness. We have kept the goods of creation to ourselves when sharing them were the faithful response.

Forgive us for handling the pearls of your grace and love with clumsy fingers. Create in us clean hearts, place our feet on holy ground and set us on the right way. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

(A time for reflection, to be ended with the ringing of the bell.)

Meditation from the Word of God

“FAR AS THE CURSE IS FOUND”
Rev. Emmanuel Orendain

Affirmation of Faith (together)

We believe in a seeking and loving God,
who does not wait for us to find ourselves
but comes seeking the lost and calling us into a new way.

We believe in Jesus of Nazareth as God’s crucial initiative,
that when he calls us to follow, Christ also gives us the power
to become, both in creed and deed, the children of the living God.

We believe in the Spirit by whom Jesus still comes to us,
calling us to follow him into an obedience which is true liberty
and to a humble service which is the fruit of holy friendship.

We believe in the church as the fellowship of Christ’s people,
called to respect and support one another through joys and tribulations
as we travel the road towards God’s future.

This we believe and so we live, Amen (A Contemporary Creed)

This New Year remember:

God nowhere promises happiness is to be a goal in life. It’s not a goal.

Our goal is to obey God.
Our goal is to do the will of God.
Our goal is to be a disciple of the
Lord Jesus Christ.
