Leader: In you, O Lord, I take refuge; let me never be put to shame.
People: In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me; incline your ear to me and save me.
Leader: Be to me a rock of refuge, a strong fortress, to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.
People: Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel.
Leader: For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
People: Upon you I have leaned from my birth.

Prayer of Confession

Gracious God, today we confess our lack of trust in you. We confess that we don’t believe in your goodness; we quickly forget your unending faithfulness. When trouble and hardship surround us, we don’t run to you; we run to friends, entertainment, food, activity -- anything to numb the pain or fill the void.

And yet, what you want is to hear our cries. You want to be the one we run to. The only one we run to. You are so merciful, and we thank you today for your mercy. Forgive us our sins, our lack of faith as we pray to you. May we always give you the cries of our hearts. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

(A time of silence for personal reflection, to be ended with the ringing of the bell.)

Affirmation of Faith

          We believe ---
                    that we are the light of the world,
                    that we should let our light shine before others,
                    that our love should be genuine,
                    that we should hate what is evil,
                    that we should love what is good,
                    that we should be guided by the Spirit,
                    that we should not be conceited or envy one another,
                    that we should clothe ourselves with virtue and
