Opening Hymn #430

“Come Sing, O Church, in Joy”

Invocation

Prayer of Confession (together)

Merciful Savior, in this Lenten season, we confess to you and to one another that we fall far short of being all that you created us to be. Forgive us Lord, we have not loved you with our whole hearts, preferring instead to pursue our own way, erect idols of our own making and secure our own needs.

Forgive us Lord for we have not loved our neighbors. In fact, very often our neighbors are invisible to us. We are too preoccupied, too busy, too tied-up to notice those who are different, lowly, needy or on the margins.

Forgive us because we have failed to love ourselves as well. We hold on to bitterness and anger. Forgive us, Lord. Grant us the desire and the faith to let go, putting all our days - past, present and future - in your safe and capable hands. For the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord, we pray. Amen.

(A time for reflection, to be ended with the ringing of the bell.)

Affirmation of Faith (together)

Q. What is your only comfort in life and in death?

A. That I am not my own, but belong body and soul, in life and in death, to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven; in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to Him, Christ, by His Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for Him. This we believe and so we live. Amen
