Opening Hymn #356

“Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing”

* Invocation

Prayer of Confession

O God, you see us in our sin and yet, you love us. We are so very grateful. And even when we continue on and on, over and over with the same failings, your grace never runs out. We praise you for your faithfulness. We confess our inability to flee temptation apart from you. So, keep our eyes set ever on you.

Holy Spirit, continue to remind us of what is true and convict us of sin when it is necessary. Turn our hearts back to you. We receive your forgiveness, Lord, and believe that in your great love and power you will set our ways right. Thank you, Father. In Jesus name, Amen.

(A time of silence for personal reflection, to be ended with the ringing of the bell.)

Meditation from the Word of God

“FULFILLING YOUR GOOD RESOLVE”
Rev. Emmanuel G. Orendain

* Affirmation of Faith

(A new creed for our times/ PCUSA 2017)

We believe that the LORD is God,
who created the heavens and stretched them out,
who spread out the earth and what comes from it,
who gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk in it:
who called us in righteousness,
who took us by the hand and kept us;
who has given us as a light to the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out from the prison those who sit in darkness.

We believe the former things have come to pass, and new things now spring forth.

For we believe the one seated on the throne of heaven who says
"See, I am making all things new."

This we believe and so we live, Amen.

WHY THE BOOK OF HABAKKUK IS IMPORTANT FOR BELIEVERS

The book of Habakkuk is important because it explores the difficult questions of suffering and injustice, demonstrating that a posture of trust and faith in God is possible even when circumstances are unclear. It emphasizes that true faith is not about having all the answers but about trusting in God's character and promises, even amidst hardship.
