Opening Hymn #485
“Let All Things Now Living”
Hymn: Fanny Crosby, 1875
Tune: William Doane, 1875
1.
To God be the glory, great things He hath done!
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.
REFRAIN:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son
And give Him the glory: great things He hath done!
2.
Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. (REFRAIN)
Invocation
Prayer of Confession
O Holy God of Promise, we so often place our trust in the things we can see, touch and easily believe. But you did not ask us to believe what is easy, you have asked us to believe what is true! Forgive us, Holy One, when we doubt the ways you work. Forgive us when we find it hard to believe an ancient story. Forgive us when we question how you chose to enter the world, born as one of us. Forgive our lack of faith. Help us to look in faith, open our belief, and set aside our doubts that you sent your Son, born of a virgin — the One who has come to set us all free. We offer these prayers in the name of your Son, Emmanuel, God with us. Amen.
(A time for reflection, to be ended with the ringing of the bell.)

Hosts, today; with Your wonted loving-kindness

Prayer Response
Lord, Here Am I
Words: Fanny Crosby
Music: John Ness Beck
Master, Thou callest, I gladly obey;
Only direct me, and I'll find Thy way.
Teach me the mission appointed for me,
What is my labor and where it shall be.
Master, Thou callest, and this I reply,
"Ready and willing, Lord, here am I."
Willing, my Savior, to take up the cross;
Willing to suffer reproaches and loss;
Willing to follow if Thou will but lead;
Only support me with grace in my need.
Master, Thou callest, and this I reply,
"Ready and willing, Lord, here am I."
Living or dying, I still would be Thine.
Yet I am mortal while Thou art divine.
Pardon, whenever I turn from the right;
Pity, and bring me again to the light.
Master, Thou callest, and this I reply,
"Ready and willing, Lord, here am I."

“THE LIGHT OF HOPE AND THE PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST”
Rev. Emmanuel G. Orendain
Affirmation of Faith
In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!” With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Christ, Be Our Light
by Bernadette Farrell, 1993
1.
Longing for light, we wait in darkness.
Longing for truth, we turn to You.
Make us Your own, Your holy people,
light for the world to see.
REFRAIN:
Christ, be our light!
Shine in our hearts.
Shine through the darkness.
Christ, be our light!
Shine in Your church gathered today.
2.
Longing for peace, our world is troubled.
Longing for hope, many despair.
Your word alone has power to save us.
Make us Your living voice. (REFRAIN)
3.
Longing for food, many are hungry.
Longing for water, many still thirst.
Make us Your bread, broken for others,
shared until all are fed. (REFRAIN)
4.
Longing for shelter, many are homeless.
Longing for warmth, many are cold.
Make us Your building, sheltering other,
walls make of living stone. (REFRAIN)
5.
Many the gifts, many the people,
many the hearts that yearn to belong.
Let us be servants to one another,
making Your kingdom come. (REFRAIN)
